Food banks are a practical option for eradicating world hunger. A food bank is a nonprofit organization that collects and donates food to organizations that fight hunger. Food banks often do not distribute food directly to those who are hungry; instead, they serve as food storage and distribution hubs for smaller front-line organizations. Food banks are of all sizes, supporting populations dispersed throughout vast rural areas, from modest businesses to enormous facilities that store and distribute millions of pounds of food annually, and everything in between. The size of the facility and the number of staff members are just two of the many variables that affect how food banks operate. One thing all food banks have in common, though, is that they depend on donors and volunteers to donate food to run their daily operations. It is important to not undervalue the resources the food bank offers to the numerous community organizations it may assist. 

Food banks act quickly to distribute safe food to the hungry and stop food from going to waste. Thus, they are essential in not only promoting food security but also protecting the environment from the negative effects of food waste. Therefore, encouraging food companies and fresh product farms & markets to divert their surplus to feed the hungry is a crucial duty for food banks. The leftover food items, which have been contributed, such as grains and packaged food, as well as money for sponsored midday meals or breakfasts, are provided to the poor or those who lack nourishing food. The impoverished and the food supply system are connected by the crucial link called food banks. In order to get food through their networks to those in need, they partner with many important supply chain partners, with logistics at the center of their operations. Food Banks have a wide reach thanks to their logistics competence. They can effectively support government programs to efficiently distribute food to the most in need and unreached owing to their outstanding supply chain management skills and a robust network of supporters. Reaching out to populations most impacted by hunger and poverty is the main emphasis of food banks. The backbone of the food banks’ supply chain is a network of community-based organizations, or NGOs, that manage institutional feeding programs. They support the distribution of food items and meals at programs for the needy, such as after-school programs, orphanages, benevolent hospitals, homeless shelters, and old age homes. Needless to say, food banks are perhaps the most loyal practitioners of Annadan. 

“Annam para Brahma swarupam” (Food is the essence of life/ the Lord of Creation.) -The Upanishads. This well-known Upanishad aphorism has a profound meaning. Food sustains life and let this be a cry to encourage the privileged to put their time into the blessed act of Annadan or Food Donation.
